FIRM HISTORY

Nate and Luke first met as roommates at Doane College who then after graduation were classmates in law school. In 2013, after practicing law in different capacities in separate parts of Nebraska, Nate and Luke were able to fulfill their longtime dream of starting a small-town law firm. DeWald Deaver L’Heureux has since grown into a full-service law firm with 6 attorneys that is honored to represent a broad range of clients including established regional businesses/corporations, start-up entrepreneurs, farm and ranch operations, agribusinesses, and individuals executing their first estate plan or undertaking their first court proceeding. The full suite of legal services offered by the law firm, both transactional and litigation services, are listed below. With decades of experience in handling general and complex legal issues, we believe that our firm offers a level of expertise and sophistication that is not always expected of a small-town law office. We work hard to serve our clients by providing innovative, efficient and strategic legal solutions through the premise of our core values and our guiding principle of improving our client’s key relationships.

CORE VALUES

Our firm has 3 core values: Efficiency; Transparency; and Family. Efficiency is vitally important to our firm. We strive to be ridiculously responsive to our clients and do so by leveraging technology and proven business processes so that we can promptly and effectively serve our clients. Being highly efficient also allows our firm to save our client’s both money and time, the two items most clients use to evaluate their legal counsel. Our firm is transparent in all aspects of our business and the interactions with our clients. We believe that the two most important documents we create for our clients are our engagement letters and our itemized billing statement. We spend significant time and energy informing our clients on how we render legal services and what those services cost. Everyone inside our office is family and together we celebrate our wins and share our struggles. We seek to extend that family atmosphere to our clients who trust us with some of their most personal and stressful issues in their lives. We view our clients as extended family members who we are privileged to serve as they are the people that help us pay our mortgages, buy our groceries and support our families.

RELATIONAL HEALTH

We strive to provide our services with the guiding principle of improving our client’s key relationships, rather personal, business or organizational relationships. Classically, the occupations that were defined as a “profession” were doctors, clergy and lawyers, as these were the vocations that focused on serving and “healing” people. Doctors served to heal the body, clergy served to heal the soul and lawyers served to heal the relationship. We believe any service we can offer that helps, in any way, to improve our client’s relationships is the greatest service we can provide. All clients are unique and each client and situation requires a different approach. We render our legal services in a manner that strives to set vision around unified goals, engages in the hard conversations were conflicts may be present, and then reviews all legal options to achieve the goals and resolve the conflicts – all so that our clients can then “win the day” with the fruits of healthier relationships.

USE OF TECHNOLOGY

The practice of law is not necessarily known for innovation. In a moment of juxtaposed humor and sadness, one of our attorneys was asked what differentiates us from our competition? The answer, “We use email.” In all seriousness, we have strived to embrace all relevant technology in our industry to better serve our clients, all from electronic filing all legal documents, to purchasing the latest software to better update our legal documents and processes, to subscribing to online legal news sources to keep us updated on changes in the law. Additionally, while we accept the traditional payment forms that many firms request (cash or paper check), we don’t require them. Our clients can receive their invoices through email and pay them electronically from our website. We use only use secure processors to give our clients peace of mind.

TRANSPARENT BILLING

It has been our experience that far too many people who have hired a lawyer, only find out what the lawyer charges when they get their final bill. At DeWald Deaver L’Heureux, we aim to change that. Our fees are always disclosed at the outset of a client engagement and we will provide you with either a flat fee total or our hourly rate, depending upon the nature of the legal matter. You deserve to know what your lawyer is doing and how he/she makes his/her living and our itemized invoices will provide you with detailed description of what we have done and how much it costs.
